Listen up all you train enthusiasts, the South Dakota Railroad Museum is in Hill City.
You can find the museum just south of the 1880 train depot, they share the same parking lot. The place is loaded with railroad equipment and memorabilia. There is a really neat model railroad that is still under construction.
You can purchase some scale model railroad cars and back issues of railroad magazines can be had for a donation.
If you happen to be hungry while you are in Hill City, I always love to eat at the Alpine Inn. And, Prairie Berry and Stone Faces both have wine tasting rooms just outside of town.
If the Mickelson Trail is more up your alley, the Tracy Park Hill City Trailhead is right next to the museum.
Visit the SDSRM website for more information about the SD Railroad Museum.
